We have been fortunate enough to work hand in hand with some great contractors in making the ideas of some visionary developers come true.
In this case, the developer found themselves with a solid but aged building. Some locals may recognize this building as it has been a Belleville landmark for years
Although the building was a great platform, it just needed a couple modern touches to keep up with the upgraded image they have begun with their other properties.
The idea was to remove the dated stucco style panels between the windows and replace them with a modern composite metal panel and a full glass window.
The main idea behind all this all glass look, was ultimately to end up with a very modern and bright atmosphere in all of the guest suites, in addition to drastically changing the overall exterior appearance of the building.
As always with a project of this magnitude, there are always issues that arise.
One of such hurdles was to ensure the glass was engineered to withstand the potential impact of someone falling against the glass.
As many of you know, hotel rooms can get a variety of guests. Some of which may be more prone to falling against the glass than others.
Whether or not YOU want those people in your room, we didn’t want them to end up in the parking lot by falling through the windows!
To combat this, and to increase the energy efficiency of the building we opted to use a high performance thermalpane consisting of a Solarban 60 tempered glass on the exterior and a thicker than the norm tempered glass on the inside.
Extensive testing was performed on this glass to create an impact rating and make the window actually act as a guard or handrail of sorts to keep everyone safe and inside the building where they belong.
We think everyone will agree the end result has created exactly the image they were looking for from the beginning and will be safe for years
The majority of the construction and transformation was completed by Taskforce Engineering, based out of Belleville ( www.taskforce-eng.com ).
