Amongst other things, Haegele specializes in the restoration of architecturally significant buildings.
And Trenton Glass, fortunately, is their glazier of choice when it comes to the complicated, time sensitive, and budget conscience projects. And this this project was no exception!
The custom glass handrails feature a seamless look that is accented by the 2″ diameter oak top rail. The access gates have stainless steel hinges and commercial grade locksets for both security and safety.
The glass is clear, 1/2″ thick overall tempered and laminated glass with all exposed edges polished.
In the effort of adding safety to the stairwell, we installed an impact rated, 1/2″ tempered glass panel, shaped to match rounded top of window and angled to match the stairs, over top of the existing wood window.
The glass is installed over the framing with stainless steel standoffs mechanically fasted through the glass.
The standoffs keep the glass away from the existing window to allow air circulation all while providing a pleasing appearance.
Can we shape plexiglass?- No problem! (in 8-10 weeks, yes it takes forever, but worth the wait in our opinion).
The 1/2″ thick plexiglass was cut to size, shaped, and had all the edges polished.
The product was then added to to inside of the existing 60year old handrail to bring everything up to the current codes for safety and handrails.
